Diagnostic Medical Imaging refers to the techniques and processes used to create images of the human body for clinical purposes or medical science. As a discipline and in its widest sense, medical imaging is part of biological imaging and incorporates radiology, radiological sciences, endoscopy, medical thermography, medical photography and microscopy.

Measurement and recording techniques which are not primarily designed to produce images, such as electroencephalography (EEG), magnetoencephalography (MEG), Electrocardiography (EKG) and others, but which produce data represented as maps, may be seen as forms of medical imaging.

Computed Tomography (CT) is an imaging method that uses X-rays to create cross-sectional pictures of the body.
